People in cultures spanning continents and millennia have used the practices of science to make sense of their world. In this workshop, we’ll explore how these practices span across cultures, deconstruct our ideas and values about who and what counts as science, and reflect on how these types of explorations can support students in feeling a sense of belonging both in the classroom and in science itself.

Hilleary Osheroff is the Exploratorium Teacher Institute’s Staff Biologist and resident expert in carbon-based life forms. She holds a PhD in neurobiology and developmental biology from the Rockefeller University, and has been teaching science in museums since 2008.
